Cabin Falls EcoLodge Retreats Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Wilderness Park, Temagami, Ontario, Canada
Nestled in a pristine setting, surrounded by 250 year old-growth pine forests and perched over a 10-meter waterfall, Cabin Falls EcoLodge is one of the most unique rustic lodges in Canada. The original log cabin was built for a group of american sportsmen in 1930 by the Temea Augama Anishnabe, the First Nations People of the Temagami area from Bear Island. To learn about the history of Cabin Falls see Hap’s book, The Cabin.
Since 1984 Cabin Falls EcoLodge has hosted hundreds of like-minded Nature enthusiasts. Photographers, artists, families, executives and survivalists have connected with their passion for adventure in one of Canada’s most scenic river parks. First constructed for only a few, the lodge has grown to accommodate up to twelve people in a beautiful, rustic yet elegant setting, perched atop a thirty-foot waterfall.
Cabin Falls Ecolodge is owned and managed by well-known Canadian adventurers, Hap and Andrea Wilson. Guests arrive and depart by floatplane for an all-inclusive wilderness adventure consisting of well-planned outings by canoe along the river, or on foot along the several miles of private hiking trails through old-growth pine forest. There are seven waterfalls along the river to explore, geological and glacial formations carved into the rocks and one of Ontario’s loftiest peaks to climb at Dry Lake Ridge.
Meals are tailored, organic and nutritious, while ‘off-the-grid’ lodge accommodations portray a comfortable and attractive attention to natural detail. A variety of first class gourmet meals are provided each day, usually with breakfast and dinner served in the dining cabin and lunch provided on the trail. Meals and fresh-baked goods are prepared in our woodstove and special dietary requirements can easily be accommodated. The lodge is blessed with a natural spring close by for fresh and clean drinking water.
Cabin Falls Eco-lodge is surrounded by old-growth pine forests, and natural swimming pools in the river. There are several other magnificent waterfalls nearby, all part of “the golden staircase”, a series of 7 waterfalls along the north and south channels of the lady evelyn river. Also surrounding the cabins are fabulous hiking trails and scenic lookouts, as well as some whitewater “runs” and great natural brook trout fishing areas.
Participants can sketch, carve, photograph or just quietly observe the surrounding flora and fauna and learn about the rich history of this ancient land. Have a sauna, swim in the waterfall pools, fish for natural brook trout, sit by the campfire or star gaze – after a busy day exploring you may just want to sit and relax on the spacious deck and read a book.
There is no place like it in all of Ontario; Cabin Falls Ecolodge is the only privately owned lodge in the park.
